SlingShot Steel Pier Atlantic City, NJ

Last summer, we were shot 225 feet off the ground, in 1.5 seconds, at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City New Jersey. The SlingShot was so thrilling, reaching accelerations of up to 5Gs, made me feel like I was shot out of a cannon. The views of the Historic Atlantic City Boardwalk were spectacular! We had an unhindered view of the entire coastline. I can’t wait to do it again, traveling more than 100 mph never looked so good.

EAT: Bread + Butter Atlantic City, NJ

One of the busiest places inside the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, at any given time of the day, is Bread + Butter. Its the best place for a quick bite or a gourmet beverage. Their griddled sandwiches are packed with tasty eats. Best of all, breakfast is served all day. If your in the mood for something sweet, you’re in for a sweet delight. All of their desserts are made on the premises and look like they flew them in directly from Paris, France.

Its a counter-style restaurant, so you order first and then seat yourself. When your food is prepared especially for you, they will bring it out to your table. The seating area is very airy and open. Bread + Butter is located in the vicinity of the Music Box Theater at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

I have enjoyed the waffles served with strawberries, whipped cream and gooey maple syrup; the only thing missing was MORE! The waffle wasn’t too soggy, but instead a tab bit crispy on the outer edges; just how I like them. The strawberries were sweet, definitely in season-lucky me! Its not a big serving, so next time I might just order two.

On a previous visit to Bread + Butter, I ordered the taylor ham & egg sandwich. It consisted of two scrambled eggs + taylor ham on a kaiser roll. I wasn’t too impressed with this sandwich, as it seemed a little to dry. It definitely should have had a slice of cheese on it. The taylor ham was a little too rich for my tastes without the calming effect of cheese. For the price, in the Borgata, you cannot go wrong; but next time i’m ordering cheese too!

I’m a sucker for corn muffins! So its no shock that Bread + Butter has me addicted to theirs. Its served sliced in half and slathered with butter, then grilled. Even though their muffins are grilled, they are so moist! Each muffin will cost you $3.50 for a little bite of heaven.

This past weekend I tried their grilled portobello and provolone sandwich. It was created with roasted portobello mushroom, roasted tomato and provolone cheese for only $8.50. The only bad thing about this sandwich were the butter pickles served along side. I tried to eat one, but couldn’t go through with it. The portobello mushroom was perfectly cooked, not to hard and not too mushy; it was so meaty, I forgot I was eating a mushroom. I love roasted tomato and this was a perfect pairing for the cheese and portobello. The cheese was gooey and perfectly melted on the bread, which was lightly toasted to a golden perfection, with a hint of butter.

Their desserts are out of this world. I was eyeing the banana nut bread, all the muffins and the tarts, but decided against one, as this was only breakfast!  Brian on the other hand chose the fruit tart. The fruit tart was laden with blueberries, apples, strawberries and a piece of star fruit. After tasting the star fruit, we decided that it was derived from a cross between apples, pineapples and kiwi (but we don’t know for sure!). All the fruit was piled atop a custard, which sat atop a layer of icing, which lined the flaky crust. Brian ate the fruit and custard topping, after which I indulged in the delicious and cookie like crust. It was so hard, but surprisingly flaky at the same time. When I bit down on it, it melted in my mouth. Beautiful, fresh, sweet and flaky for only $6.50.

No matter the time, you will definitely find something to satisfy your craving at Bread + Butter, no matter what time of the day.

For a listing of their menu visit http://www.theborgata.com/dine/casual-dining/bread-and-butter they are open 24 hours Monday through Thursday, from 12am-2am on Friday, from 7am-2am on Saturday and 7am-24 hours on Sunday.

China Sea Absecon NJ

I’m so sad that it took me so long to eat at the China Sea of Absecon; I’ve literally walked in front of its doors at least 2 times a week, going from one store to another for the entire summer! I am extremely picky about Chinese food, as that is the cuisine of choice every Sunday when we used to eat out for family night when I was growing up. I’ve been let down time and time again here in New Jersey when trying new Chinese restaurants and I must say that this place ranks number one in all of South Jersey! The prices are rock bottom, which is absolutely up my alley. The decor was clean, the room spacious and the seating plenty.

A superb treat from this restaurant was the complementary fried wontons, served with duck sauce and spicy mustard, plus a pot of hot tea upon seating. We were immediately asked whether we would like water or soda, which is unheard of these days.

I began my meal with a tasty and thick egg drop soup ($1.50), which I topped off with fried won tons and soy sauce. The shrimp roll was delightfully delicious too! It was a big roll, which is not normally my favorite, however this roll had cabbage and was fried to perfection. My main dish was the Green Jade Chicken ($9.95) which was as fabulous as can be! The chicken was perfectly cooked, fresh out of the wok and not slimy or rubbery at all (which is more than I can say for most of the Chinese restaurants here in NJ). It is sliced chicken stir fried with broccoli, snow peas and asparagus in a chef special brown sauce. The broccoli was crispy and tender-hard to accomplish! The snow peas were snappy but very soft-I don’t know how they perfected this combo, but its definitely perfection. The asparagus was tender and fresh, not slimy or wilted at all. I asked for the brown rice and it was exactly what I expected.

After tasting my loves roast pork fried rice I wasn’t impressed, it lacks desire and leaves a lot of room for improvement. His main dish was the Hawaii Five-O ($16.50) which consisted of jumbo shrimp, scallops, beef and chicken stir fried with broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts, baby corn, onions, mushrooms and pineapples. The meats in his dish were cooked superbly as well.  He was delighted with the entire dish, but pushed the pineapples aside as they were placed on the plate cold, not stir fried at all.

For desert the pistachio ice cream ($2.50) hit the spot! I will definitely eat here many more times before I head back to Arizona and each time i’m in town too! I recommend this place to Chinese food enthusiasts and any foodie that desires deliciously prepared and presented food. So next time you drive into, or out of Atlantic City on the White Horse Pike, make sure you save room for Chinese!
