STAY: Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa: Atlantic City New Jersey

New York City style, Las Vegas feel, beach town. The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, with their 161,000-square-foot casino floor, leaves you wanting for not. Their luxurious rooms, 2,000 in all, are very posh in decor, with two towers to choose from. My favorite part of the rooms are the sumptuous 300-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets. They recently changed their pillows to a fuller soft variety and I love them. Among the plethora of amenities, the wireless high-speed internet will keep you connected; even as you sit apart from the rest of Atlantic City.

The Borgata is located on the Marina, which is a long, long, long walk from The World Famous Atlantic City Boardwalk. Which might be the reason they have thought of your every need, just in case you choose not to drive when visiting AC. You will find several delicious eateries including the New York–landmark Old Homestead Steakhouse. If you’re a foodie like me, you will utterly enjoy the collection of restaurants by Acclaimed chefs such as Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, Michael Schulson and Stephen Kalt.

The fine dining restaurants available to you are Bobby Flay SteakWolfgang Puck American Grille, Izakaya and Fornelletto. For a more casual experience visit The Metropolitan Café & Oyster Bar, Noodles of the World (N.O.W.), Borgata Buffet, BREAD + BUTTER or Roma.

N.O.W. is my all time favorite spot, boasting both a noodle bar and community tables. However be prepared for the rude service; and yes I’m referring to the “yell at you, in your face, in Chinese or some other Asian language” rude service. I enjoy sitting at the bar, watching the chefs prepare various noodle dishes, removing the noodles from small plastic pouches, to drape into their prepared broths, which sit nice and thick with steam. The have community tables, so even if you dine alone, you will feel like you’re part of the the party. The coconut drink at N.O.W. is out of this world! Packed with an entire coconut (so it seems).

After your stomach is filled, its time for a bar crawl. The Gypsy BarLong Bar, and  the  B Bar will get the job done, the best part is that you won’t need to hail a cab afterwards. If you are in the mood to let it flow on the dance floor, head on over to Mixx the Nightclub on Saturdays and Sundays. If you’re in town Friday, Saturday or Monday head over to MUR.MUR for a sexy, but sensual spot; that is rich in decor, with a cozy advance in the culture of a nightlife.

Take a look at the events calendar to plan your next trip, because I have a feeling that you might just want to do it all. In the Music Box you will find a variety of shows, anything from music to cooking demonstrations. Shows of all kinds can be found at Borgata. I had the pleasure of watching the Chopped star Chef Geoffrey Zakarian do his thing on stage and came away with some awesome tips and tricks-watch out tomatoes here my blade comes!

We were there this weekend and Seinfeld happened to be on stage too. Unfortunately I didn’t learn of it until the Sunday after. I’m a late night person when in AC so I’m very happy they decided to extend the hours at the Japanese restaurant which is downstairs in the food court, because it is delicious for a quick late night bite. They also have a Fat Burger down there that tastes just like the original.

If you’re like me, after a night of fun you might want to nestle into a lounge chair under the skies in their garden, or indoors by the pool. However I have to warn you, especially if you suffer from allergies as I do; the Borgata cleaning crew does a horrible job of cleaning inside the enclosed pool area. Just this past Monday, I was sitting in the Jacuzzi, I realized they still had not cleaned the fake palm trees, which line the pool area, because they are caked and dripping with dust. It made me remember the last time I utilized this pool.

This is an exert from my previous review “Then if that wasn’t bad enough, as I looked on the ground next to the Jacuzzi under the lounge seats, I couldn’t help but get grossed out by the thick layer of dirt, dust and debris on the floor of the pool area. It was so gross that I nearly ran out of the water, and as I exited the Jacuzzi, I accidentally rubbed one of the palm tree leaves with my hair. It made me feel so dirty and disgusted that I will not be utilizing their pool area again.”

Well needless to say I still should have tried to lose that newly gained tension, with a spa treatment at one of their 2 luxurious Spas. The Immersion Spa and Spa Toccare offer both rejuvenation and relaxation treatments for men and women. Pre-booking is always recommended too. Next time I will forgo the pool and opt for a massage.

I have had the pleasure of staying at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa so many times, that I think I may have enjoyed each of their room types. My favorite is the Borgata Hotel & Spa tower, as opposed to the Water Club. I like that side because its much easier to access. The guest rooms have separate quarters for the commode, as well as glass enclosed showers with the most heavenly of shower heads. Their showers offer both a stationary shower head and a removable hose, as well as a bench seat. I love the stationary shower head in the Water Tower rooms, because they feel like a waterfall, with its 100 holes oozing water (not sure on the actual number of holes but it sure feels like 100). The last time I had a downpour that wonderful was at the Marriott Hotel in Palm Springs, but it was at their pool, not in the room. I am beginning to think we return to the Borgata, week after week because of the shower head, but my love would beg to differ.

The poker room at the Borgata is world-renowned, due mostly in part to their humongous bad beat jackpots. Although several casinos in Atlantic City have a bad beat jackpot, the Borgata bad beat is shared only by the players sitting at the individual poker table, as opposed to the entire room getting paid a part of the bad beat. This could lead to 6 figure payouts to those that aren’t even involved in the hand and that is an unbelievable payout; one which brings in poker players by the dozens on any given day.

The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa offers an array of entertainment, music and food; because it’s not just about gaming in Atlantic City anymore.
