Before beer was seasoned with hops; fruit and vegetables did the trick. I guess you could call me an old school lover, because the fruity seasoned beers are the only kind I enjoy. Fruity flavored beer is hard to come by anymore, which is why i’m not a true connoisseur of beer. However I do enjoy a good Cider or Lindemans Framboise every now and again. That being said, you can imagine my delight at finding Ayinger Bräu-Weisse Brewed by Brauerei Aying, an aristocratic beer, with hints of banana, citrus and vanilla flavors, laced throughout the cloudy pour. If I were blind folded when given this, I would have guessed it to be a banana bread shake with a hint of beer, it was that good! I actually enjoyed this beer much more than Framboise or any Cider I’ve enjoyed to date. It’s a true Hefeweizen, so they say, with its traditional top fermenting. When serving this to your guests, pour it slowly into a beer glass, just as you would a Guinness, to suspend the yeast, layering the thick white head. Then sit back, relax and watch them devour it, just like cake.
